I just got a flier from her and it is titled "Are you worried about government regulated health care?" and "The debate over government Regulated Health Care". And is full of lies.
She claims that small businesses will be taxed, payroll taxes will go up 8%, Government will make key medical decisions, Medicare will be cut, and seniors will lose their Medicare Advantage plan.
She offers a "Common Sense solution": Allow small businesses to pool employees with other small business employees, to lower the cost of buying health insurance. Enact medical Liability reform, which is essential to reduce costly, unnecessary defensive medicine.
She says: "Majority leaders in Congress support what I feel is a healthcare system controlled by the government, what I believe could eventually become nationalized, universal, or socialized healthcare. Nationalizing our healthcare system will not fix our problems. Bigger government and more spending will only create bigger problems and higher taxes in the coming years. We need healthcare solutions that keep txes low, give you choices, and that work for all North Carolinians." http://
I responded:
"I just got your flier, and did a little fact checking, and found that almost all of your assertions are either half truths, mischaracterizations, or taken out of context. In fact, your flier reads like a promo written by the private HMOs. Further research found the same wording in other fliers and talking points, almost word for word. This makes me distrust you, and brings into question if you are fit for office.
You ignore one important fact: the private health insurance business had shown that it puts profit above health care - fact that the HMO's have a 30% + profit margin, while Medicare does just fine with 4%. Medicare works. The HMOs already deny health care, they already let people die, they already cut off a policy for no reason at all, they already make you jump through piles of paperwork just to get health care. They already have proven to collude on premium rates. They prove they can't do the job, so why the heck do they think that, suddenly, they are going to change their ways and become all goody goody?
All you need to do is to extend medicare for all Americans. And stop ignoring the needs of your constituents, and stop listening to the health care lobbyists and their money. Who do you represent, anyway?
I can't get insurance because of pre-existing conditions. I read about the gold plated health care coverage you have. If you vote against a public option, will you also, by the same token, shut down medicare and get off the health care plan that we, American are paying for, for you? Fair is fair. If we can't have public health care, then you shouldn't either.

Please straighten this woman out, and tell her the truth.
